CrashPlan on Synology

As of CrashPlan 4.3+ there are additional steps necessary to alter the local CrashPlan UI to connect to a headless service.  All of the steps are nicely laid out on the following website.

And the following is the official CrashPlan page for configuring headless services.

The following is the Linux command for looking up the GUID of the remote service on my Synology NAS.

cat /var/lib/crashplan/.ui_info  ; echo

VMWare ESXi Home Lab

I just dropped some serious $$$ on beefing up my home lab.  Here's the specs:

VMWare ESXi Whitebox

  • Gigabyte MA785GMT-UD2H
  • AMD Athlon II X4 630
  • Corsair XMS DDR3 1600
  • Intel Network Adapter EXPI9301CTBLK
  • Intel Network Adapter PRO/1000 T

SAN/NAS

  • Netgear ReadyNAS Ultra 4 Plus
  • Hitachi Deskstar 7K3000 HDS723020BLA642
  • Hitachi Deskstar 7K3000 HDS723020BLA642  (added 4/11/2012)
  • Hitachi Deskstar 7K2000 HDS723020BLA642
  • CyberPower CP1000AVRLCD 1000VA 600 Watt
Thanks to http://www.vm-help.com/ for putting together a good HCL for ESXi whiteboxes.

4/11/2012 - Added another 2TB hard drive.  ReadyNAS X-RAID2 expanded the volume dynamically expanding the usable storage from 1.8TB to 2.7TB.  Basically, half the capacity of any disk added to the array is made usable.
